Mama Kat's Writing Workshop for this week. I haven't done one in FOREVER! 15 Reasons you're awesome!
1. I am amazing with words. Knowing my aspirations of being an English Instructor and my love of literature I have worked hard to hone my skills with my diction. I can make people feel amazing based on how I am with my words.
2. I am a master at knowing my literature, especially classic lit. This means that I give great book recommendations to people searching for a new world to love. I also quote literature randomly for no reason at all.
3. I have a built-in Actor/Actress guide of vast knowledge in my head I can pull up at random. This means that when you want to know what that movie is that's about a girl having lived in New York City being pulled into an otherworldly adventure when hitting a dog with her bike and a male foodie that is actually a wolf I will tell you that - Actually, that's a mini-series from 2004 called the 10th Kingdom starring Kimberly Williams-Paisly and Scott Cohen and seriously it's like the greatest thing ever.
4. I have tons of useless trivia in my head. For example, did you know the largest volcano in our Galaxy is named Olympus Mons (Mount Olympus) and is located on Mars? No? Well... now you do.
5. I love meeting new people. Seriously. I like to chat up strangers. I will also yell back in public places. If you hear a group of people yelling... and then a random woman responding in an equal calling tone... It's probably me.
6. I get along with just about anyone. In the very rare event that I don't get along with you, you'll never know it because I won't talk behind your back or be a jerk to you. I will also let you rant to me without ever letting anything you said slip out of my mouth.
7. I'm pretty fabulous at kissing - so I'm told by everyone I've kissed. That's probably a good quality to have. Maybe? I'm still not entirely convinced... but I'll take the compliments I get.
8. I am witty. I'm not just saying that because it's me. I'm saying it because I can be pretty freakin' hilarious. For example, Ajax was being ridiculous last night and wouldn't go away. Which eventually led to him having to stay bothering me because zombies.
Ajax: What about the zombies?
Me: I'll...make out with them.
Ajax: You must be tired.
Yeah. In a zombie apocalypse apparently I'm going to make out with the zombies and cure them. Bet you didn't know I was that much of a bang-up kisser. I kid...sort of.
9. I am reliable. Seriously, you can call me at 4am and if your call wakes me up. I'll answer it. If you are drunk and need to get home no matter the time - I'm there. You make plans with me? I won't be the one to cancel them.
10. I'm a good worker. At my college job everyone would be fighting to go home first. I'd be the one staying there, even though my station was the first one totally cleaned, scrubbing everything from top to bottom until 2am to keep boss-man from staying until 6am to finish the work by himself.
11. I am a goofball. I am random and crazy. Probably a nerd, too. There's rarely a rhyme or reason to my antics, but it usually works out because it makes the people I'm around happy and amused.
12. I genuinely care about anyone that enters my life. I want them all to be happy, safe, and secure in their lives. I get connected to people and I don't want to lose contact.
13. I'm firm in who and what I am. I've known the kind of person I am and want to be and have done my damnedest to stay that way despite growing and changing. I know what I want from my life and strive to achieve it.
14. I'm determined and rarely give up. I'm interpreting this lately as I just freaking love rejection! Honestly, 100+ job applications with two responses? That is some serious rejection, yet I am still right there trekking on to find the perfect job for me.
15. I am honest. I don't like liars. I'd rather be honest and true to myself than a liar.

+ "A Storm's Comin', Boys" +
I always hear Jim Beaver’s voice as the character Bobby in Supernatural when bad things are comin’. I can’t help it, it just happens.
“A Storm’s comin’, Boys”
Then I’m left in uncertain darkness
Pondering what things are to come.
Is there any intelligible reason I should be
concerned when there’s nothing I can do?
Yet inside I always know that storm is about to
come down like the flood from the past.
“A storm’s comin’, Boys”
Is a storm ever coming…
If I could do anything
I’d find a way to bring a drought.
I’m not ready to lose.
I’d rather go down fighting.
Just like the last time.
“A Storm’s comin’, Boys”
Why can’t storms ever pass without leaving wounded?
All I see is sorrow and pain.
I want a storm to clean the slate,
not to break the rest of us.
I’d much rather forget the now and future.
I could live in the past just fine.
Where the storm can be held off…
“A storm’s comin’, Boys”
You can keep your storm.
You can keep your dark skies.
Take your acid rain and shove it.
Let me run away to another time and place.
Let me disappear for a while and
come back with a better sense of the world.
“A storm’s comin, Boys”
Lightning thrashes across the black sky.
Stars never seem quite so bright.
Earth feels as though it’s dying.
Everything seems so hopeless as thunder crashes on.
Stuck in a limbo you can’t ever leave.
Being crushed for reasons you can’t see
that don’t feel like they truly exist.
“A storm’s comin’, Boys”.
\Thanks. I never wanted to know what’s to come.
Denial is a girl’s best friend.
Lies, Deceit… So much better than truth.
One day I’ll forgive.
One day I’ll forget about this storm,
just like the last one.
One day it’ll all just be a bad dream.
But I can’t see it now. It seems like it will be forever.

+ Lost in the Hiding +
You know, not everything about my life was as crazy as it sometimes feels that it is and always has been. There are brief moments where I'm reminded of pure and simple perfection - and those moments when it felt like it would last forever. I don't think I ever would have thought I'd be where I am today, be doing what I am, have had some of the great, horrific, heart-breaking, or absolutely wonderful moments I've partaken in during my brief lifetime thus far. I don't think that if you had told me during those perfect moments that this is how everything was, is, and would one day be I would have believed it. Maybe I would have been thrilled, maybe not.
The younger me was much more positive of everything. She had such a strong faith and love that I haven't lost per se, but it doesn't ring with the same assurance that it all once did. I'm working towards it. But I think that she would be more or less satisfied, perhaps heart-broken over certain situations and people who've come and gone and how they couldn't have stayed by her side... but I think in the end she would have accepted it, moved on, and continued to be strong.
But this isn't about what she would have done, thought, or believed. This is actually going to be all about her. When we moved from our lives in California and had that shift of our futures it wasn't always easy. I mean not for young me, I couldn't have cared less. But for Ajax and the Mom? Yeah, it was difficult. It took time and visits from old friends to heal their wounds. I remember that one summer Robin, Ajax's best friend, came to visit. The young me had always loved him - he was everything that Ajax wasn't able to be. Don't get me wrong, I loved Ajax - unconditionally. Robin was different, though. He was the gentler and more loving brother that wasn't blood.
One day we got the bright idea to play together. As we had a pretty big house the natural choice for playing was hide and seek. There were no off-limits and the sky was the limit for us. I could hear the chanting, "1...2...3..." and off I ran. I wasn't sure where to go.
Upstairs? There is the room off the play room...No that's stuffed with that pink and yellow spongey stuff. That's no good. The hall closet? No... too easy. So, fine, not upstairs. Main level... Hmmm, that closet that connects the hall and the Mom's bedroom? No, too obvious. The Dad's closet... No, I might get lost and I don't think the Dad would be okay with that. Maybe the garage? No, too dangerous. Downstairs? Bathroom? No, it's full of spiders. Behind the bar...Not enough cover. Finally after enough searching for the perfect space to hide I happened upon the idea of exploring the basement.
The thing that was perfect about our basement was that it's an unfinished one. You know it has piles of dirt and black tarps and tons of stuff everywhere. Basically your perfect place to get lost. And getting lost is the point of hide and seek after all. The best part about the dirt piles are that there's a space just small enough for shoving up under with a support beam to hide your body from the sight of wandering in the basement. Unluckily for me Robin had already gotten the idea that I had. He was already perched on top of the dirt pile after I had settled I noticed him, "It's okay... We can both hide here. There's still the others that aren't here."
Robin was always the nice type. My strongest memory of him was when I was even younger. Ajax had gotten mad at the rents' and decided to take it out on me. We had this metal railing along our staircase in California and Ajax decided to bash my skull into the railing and take his rage out on me. I held my head and began to cry... That is until Robin appeared and craddled my head in his chest and held me as I cried cooing all along that everything was going to be fine and that I would feel better in a few minutes. It was always easy to love him.
Ajax had found his way into the basement. My friends trailing along behind him having already been found. Smugly I smiled to myself at having not been the first to be found. No sooner had that thought crossed my mind than Ajax said, "Found you..." My heart fluttered a bit sadly and I was about to move to reveal myself when Robin put a finger to his lips and slipped out from under the support beam. It was Robin that had been spotted, not me.
"Where is she?" Ajax looked to Robin. "I haven't seen her. She must be really good at hiding." And off they went to look for me.

+ Is it School Time Yet? +
Basically the main thing I miss about the school year right now is living in an apartment. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dad and the Mom as much as the next kid, and even Ajax. I do. But it is nice to be on your own sometimes, I just feel lame and like a kid again when I'm living with the family.
At least when I'm on my own I can make my own decisions. If I want to go out, I go out. If I want to stay out until 3 in the morning, there's no one I'm supposed to wake up to let know I'm home okay. Basically I miss the freedom I have when I'm not under their roof. And it's disconcerting because it feels like I have no choices or control. Plus, there it doesn't matter I don't have a car. Everything is walking distance. If I want to go out I don't have to wait for a ride or until someone gets home so I can use their car. I just go using my own legs.
Then there's the fact that it appears I have more friends there than I do here. Or maybe it's all in my head, but regardless it certainly feels like I don't have many friends here. I make plans, they blow me off. So, here I am stuck with the family and only them. Who drive me up the wall, and yet still they keeps me sane at times. It really makes no sense.
Plus, right now during the limbo of Summer it seems like I have no purpose. I'm working for the Dad, trying to get caught up on Spanish, and just trying to make the days pass. But it's like my whole life is on hold. And that is what has me struggling. I think.
I guess I don't really know. I just want to be able to finish up what I need to and then I'll have yet another threshold to cross again. Freshman year, with the aid of two amazing women instructors, we spoke a lot about thresholds. The meaning of them and their importance. With my last semester in the making, I find myself thinking of them a lot again. Some thresholds are scary, some ground you. And sometimes they're a mystery, and that's what this one is.
I guess I mostly miss that during the school year it doesn't feel like my life is on hold. Like I'm struggling through a place holder. Even though I pretty much am still during school. And then there's the realization during this suspension of time that I push too many people away, and that's probably why I'm alone during this suspension of time.
What do you miss most about the school year?
