+Snap! Aquatic Critters! +

So, it's been a slow (or busy) week. Finally kickin' the bitchy virus-y thing I had been fortunate enough to catch from The Dad, Iago, and/or Antigone. So, that's good, however I'm still being forced to shove drugs down my throat because I'm not back at my 100% yet. The Dad ordered me to keep taking *allertec* until I was completely better.

In general news about me. I had an exam today I feel pretty confident about, I did awesome on the 20 out of class points for the exam. The Dad is gone on a fishing trip with a friend and thus more or less unreachable for now. Which brings me to my next topic, Attack of the Fishzilla!

I'm still convinced that guy kinda looks like a goomba from Super Mario Bros. The live action movie with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo from 1993. For visual comparison, here's a picture of the adorable goombas:

See? I'm not saying they look exactly the same, but there's a slight resemblance. Especially considerings Goombas are not running amok irl, but Fishzilla is running amok and swimming free. Fishzilla is basically a fish that's native to China - called a snakehead fish, but is sometimes imported to the US for fish food or for aquarium pets. Yeah, because nothing like having a pet that looks like it might eat you the second it grows strong enough to smash the glass with it's pure mass and magic.

The main issue is that somehow it's ending up in our rivers. One was found in Maryland where they threw a huge fit, yeah nice right? The problem is that because it's not native to our waters it screws up our eco systems.

What I find to be most intriguing is that they look terrifying and slightly prehistoric yet people want them for pets? That's like people having an emu. Probably not that smartest idea, and in the case of the emu it's the de-evolutionized raptor. That's not a really stupid idea. ._.

Apparently Snakehead fish can breathe air, which allows them to actually travel on land to hunt prey. It's known to eat birds, snakes, and rodents. Yikes. They have also been known to drive away the native species once it's taken over a particular eco system.

Ain't it totally lovely? However, my curiousity strikes, I'm totally wondering which would win in the case of a fight between this creepy critter and the amazing Gar. What's a Gar you ask? Well, allow me to introduce the adorable creature:

...or as I like to call him, Crockofeesh. It'd be the best fishing experience ever to catch a Gar. Because they're huge and terrifying, but how B.A. would it be to have a picture with a Gar, holding it and it be like bigger than you? Automatic bragging rights just for catching a fish (technically it's a kind of pike).

Oh, here's the article it came from, btw: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/04/species-of-invasive-fish-walk-on-land-climb-trees.php. Just to cover the bases, yo. This just seemed like a crazy story, I decided to share.
