+ Unexpected +

Day 22: 10 Things About You People Don't Expect.

Oh man... there's probably a number of things that confuse people when they find them out about me.

In the last six or so years I've tried to take a bit more pride in my feminity. I grew up being pretty tomboy-esque mostly because I wanted to be just like Ajax growing up. I wanted to do what he did and hang out with him. Which meant nerf wars, hot wheels, x-men action figures (power rangers, ninja turtles, ghost busters, mighty max, etc.), camping, fishing, and playing in lots of dirt.

Finally with my joining Mary Kay as a beauty consultant, I manage to maintain a feminine façade. As a result I confuse people after I start talking to them.

1. Men, especially, are always super confused when I say I enjoy fly fishing. I rock acrylic nails and can still manage to out fish trout bums.

2. I fenced in college. Another thing that doesn't fit the way I look. I was actually great at defense with my fencing.

3. Camping and Hiking. Again it goes against the general look I rock these days.

4. My age. I look young now that I'm an adult. I'm often mistaken for under the legal drinking age, despite being on the other side of 25.

5. My diction. People are often confused that I can hold intellectual conversations and I often have to reword my conversations with less, syllables.

6. My nerd-girl tendencies. I don't know what it is or why this surprises people so much. I feel like us 90s babes just grew up with too much potential for nerdiness and it was inevitable.

7. Video gamer. That tends to confuse my students a lot, too. However, again being a 90s girl, I was in the middle of the creation of video games. It was all up in my childhood. Everyone did it.

8. My ability to work technology. I fix the family's computers on a regular basis. I'm by no means an expert, but I can clean up a computer and get rid of minor viruses and such.

9. Gym Obsession. While I've hit two of my goals and am down 50+ lbs, I'm not at my end goals. I'm still not thin. So people are confused if I say I'm going to the gym.

10. I can't think of much for this. One of my students was surprised I had a boyfriend. That was kind of sad, but that's something...
