+ Father's Daughter +
There are many ways that I resemble my paternal side of my family.
While I can converse with just about anyone, I am not going to force people to chat me up by talking to them first. That's a rarity and it takes quite a lot for me to feel comfortable enough to do that with someone. So when placed in large family gatherings I find a spot to claim as my own and respond and smile and laugh with those that talk to me. It's obvious that I am friendly and willing to converse, but I don't force it. While some run over and corner you and force you to chat them up. I guess in a lot of ways I'd prefer people to come to me and force me to chat them up than waiting for me to come to them. I think part of it I'm just so used to being pushed aside at family gatherings I just always feel out of place.
So when at the rehearsal dinner I was sitting by the eldest male cousin and a lot of silence occurred I didn't let it bother me. I responded when they spoke to me and laughed at times, mostly I was engrossed in the hockey game against the rangers and panthers. Finally he asked me if I liked Hockey and who I typically watch. To be totally honest, I don't give a dang who wins. So I told him I really just watch for the fights. Which is entirely true. I didn't add that usually I'm just a jerk and root for whoever the majority aren't. I even go so far as to root for whoever is playing the team my friends are rooting for. I just like being a trouble maker. That's why I rooted for the Thunderbirds at a Chiefs game.
It was kind of cute though. When a fight broke out and someone was trying to talk to me my cousin was all, "Zelda! Fight!" and patted my shoulder to get my attention. I think he might be my favorite of the three older cousins (which are technically third cousins). I end up having favorites sometimes. I'm human, what more do you want from me?
Anyway, while the chaos was ensuing around us it was The Dad and myself that was sitting in silence. Apparently I have a taste for Whiskey Sours and Tom Collins like The Dad's father. I am a bangin' Italian cook just like both of them. It was kind of cool because this trip I was learning more about The Dad's father, whom I never got the pleasure to really know.
