The philosophy behind the quotation was pretty interesting. It was Lestat and David Talbot talking about the ideas of God, Devil, and religion. A kind of imperfect game or bet between God and the Devil. As if they were friendly-ish and just were trying to gain more people to their persuasion. At least that's the idea I remember. It's been a long time since I read the novel.
