+ 30 Day Book Challenge: Day 8 +

Most Overrated Book

Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. Now, don't get me wrong anyone can attest to the fact I love me some Anne Rice. And goodness knows there are plenty of other books more overrated than Interview, I could have easily written about the entire Twilight series. However, I didn't want to bother with that.

I chose Interview because I just couldn't, for the life of me, get into that book. It took, what felt like years, to get through it. In reality it was my first semester of Junior or Senior year of high school to get through it. I think part of what irritated me so much was the portrayal of Lestat - he is so different in The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, and Tale of the Body Thief. I mean, it makes sense - Interview is written in the perspective of Louis. I don't know, for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way.

I love Interview with the Vampire movie. Kirsten Dunst is fantastic, especially considering how young she was and the character she played. Don't get me wrong - Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise weren't bad either. It was done fantastic - the movie kept my interest a lot better than the book. I still say Stuart Townsend will always be Lestat in my head, though. I also don't care what anyone says, Queen of the Damned as a movie was still awesome. I probably wouldn't have thought that if I had read the books first - but I saw it when it first came out before I ever read an Anne Rice novel. That movie got me curious and brought about my love of Anne Rice. It wasn't a total failure. The novel Queen of the Damned has definitely had a deeper impact on me as a whole as well. So, really - enough hating on the movie. I wanted Lestat and Jesse to end up together. I was not happy when she went with her Aunt instead in the novel.

I'd suggest The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief,  or The Mummy or, Ramses the Damned.
