A Book That Makes You Happy
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen makes me happy. Okay, okay! I know it's technically about a girl that gets raped and her sister's struggle with anorexia and that doesn't seem like it should make me happy. But I can't help adoring Annabel and Owen. And I love that Dessen gives her characters from previous books cameos in new ones. I adored that Remy pops up while Annabel and Owen are at a club to see a band.
And I love Owen's silly little sister that adores Annabel. And the way that things end up being okay in the end. It's just one of those books that no matter how many times I read it - I still love it just as much as the first time. I really am such a sucker for Dessen books - I blame Clara and her suggestion that I read Dreamland in like 2004. Ever since then I've been in love with her writing.
If you haven't read Dessen's books I definitely suggest you pick them up. I don't suggest Someone Like You or That Summer as your first Dessen book though. Especially if you've seen How to Deal. It's not the same thing - it's a mix of those two books and while they're not bad... They aren't the best introduction to Sarah Dessen. I might not have been such a fan if those were the ones I read first. Go for Just Listen, Dreamland, The Truth About Forever, Lock and Key, or This Lullabye as your first one.
